This unit provides us with an opportunity to explore the world of mental health and illness. We will examine several different types of illness, how doctors go about diagnosing and treating brain disorders, and the stigma surrounding them. This section will encompass two chapters in our curriculum: Abnormal Behavior & Treatment of Abnormal Behavior.
Be careful of the INTERN SYNDROME! Students will be tempted to diagnose themselves and others during this unit. Please remember that none of us (including myself) are experts in the subject of mental illness and do not have the qualifications to do so. We all are unique and have our "quarks". This unit will help us understand the differences between unique behavior and a mental disorder. All important documents can be found on our Google Classroom site. |
