In this unit we will primarily explore the subcontinent of India. Our conversations will include British imperialism in India including the nationalist movement led by Mohandas Gandhi. We will examine poverty and the wealth gap in the country. We will also explore the rich culture of India and its people including religions, holidays, and other traditions.
The Indian Caste system (not as prevalent as it was decades ago) is one of the most rigid social structures on earth. The system is rooted in the Hindu belief in dharma, karma, and reincarnation. The Hindu god Brahma (to the right) shows the hierarchy of the caste system.

HinduismThe Ganges river (to the left) is considered one of the holiest rivers on earth due to its connection with Hinduism. Because of its frequent use this river is also one of the most polluted on earth.
